FEDERAL RESERVE BANK
OF BOSTON

RALPH E. FLANDERS

PRESIDENT

October 13,1944»

Mr. Elliott Thurston,
Special Assistant to the Chairman,
Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System,
Dear Elliott:
I stand firmly not on thin ice but on solid
ground when I admit Boston has the greatest
orchestra and the greatest conductor•
The matter
is not subject to argument if for no other reasons
than on the grounds of the Latin proverb, tfDe
gustibus non est disputandum11*
Following again the policy of keeping the
Board of Governors informed as to what I am saying
publicly, I enclose herewith manuscript of some
remarks at the bank meeting of the New England
Council, which remarks I hope you will find to be
harmless*
Sincerely yours,

A.
