Mr. Marriner S. Eccles, Chairman
Board of Governors
Federal Reserve System
Washington, D. C.
My dear Chairman:
Through the courtesy of }fr. R. M. Evans, there has
been delivered to my desk a copy of your book entitled
"Economic Balance and a Balanced Budget". Mr. Evans advises
me further that the book is sent with your compliments.
I am very grateful to you and to him for this thoughtful
courtesy.
I shall, I am sure, be well repaid in reading the
book, and I am looking forward to an opportunity of a v i s i t
with you at some early mutually convenient date.

Ootober 13, 191*3-

Uy dear Senator:
Your note, acknowledging receipt from Governor
Evans of the book containing various speeches and statements which I have made in the past, was on my desk upon
ny return from a v i s i t in the West, and 1 very much welcome your suggestion f o r a v i s i t at a mutually convenient
time*
We have a pri-varte-^dinrng -room here in the Federal Reserve Building and I am wondering i f you could not
came to luncheon with Governor Evans and me sometime
during the latter part of next week or the week following*
I f you would telephone to me or drop me a note as to what
day would be most convenient f o r you, 1 would very much
appreciate it*
Let me say in passing that I am reluctant to i n f l i c t that book upon you in these busy times, particularly
because so much of i t relates to problems of the past.
However, the introductory credo, in case you have an opportunity to look into the book, summarizes a viewpoint which
I think i s as valid f o r the post-war world as I considered
i t f o r the decade preceding our entry into the war»
Sincerely yours.

Honorable Guy H. G i l l e t t e ,
United States Senate,
Washington,
C*

October 19, 1943

Mr. Marriner S. Eccles, Chairman
Board of Governors
Federal Reserve System
Washington, E. 0m
My dear Chairman:
I was very much pleased to receive your l e t t e r of
a fev; days ago suggesting that a luncheon might be arranged at some
mutually convenient time in the private room of the Federal Heserve
Euilding where Governor Evans, you and I could lunch and discuss
soiae of the problems in which we are greatly interested. Your
l e t t e r suggests the p o s s i b i l i t y of a meeting arranged f o r this week
or next.
I do not believe i t is going to be possible f o r
me to come during the period comprising the remainder of this month.
An unusually large number of obligations requiring my attendance here
would seem to prevent* I should be glad indeed to come at any time
a f t e r the f i r s t of November when i t would be convenient f o r you,
high r egard, I am

Ihanking you sincerely and with expressions of
Very sincerely,
