Exhibit for Reserve Bank Organization Committee
Description:
This set of four 4"x5" cards were found in the Reserve Bank Organization Committee collection at the National Archives, College Park, Maryland facility (NARA II) in Records Group 82. It is an example of the types of material that were produced by the businesses and citizens of St. Louis to attest to the importance of the city and its area of influence. They were part of the exhibits created to support the designation of St. Louis as a regional reserve bank. These cards were produced by E. C. Simmons of St. Louis, Missouri.

Hearing Before the Federal Reserve Board on Behalf of the City of Louisville, Petitioning for a Branch Federal Reserve Bank of the St. Louis Reserve District
Description:
In 1916, the city of Louisville petitioned St. Louis for the creation of a branch bank in their city, but the petition was denied. The attached hearing is a transcript of a meeting held at the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. on December 21, 1916 when a group of Louisville bankers and William McChesney Martin Sr. appeared before the Board to discuss their needs. On July 3, 1917, the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis granted the petition for a branch bank at Louisville, KY. The Louisville branch opened for business on December 3, 1917.
