Saturday February 22 being a legal holiday, the Federal Reserve Board 1s
weekly bank statement was issued the .day before as at close of busiress on
Thursday. February 2 0 , .1919 •
The statement indicates moderate net liq uidatio n of a ll classes oi b:-.] is,
& substantial reduction in reserve deposits, and a slight decline in Federal
Reserve note circulation*

Gold reserves increased 5*7 m illions and total

cash reserves - 6 * 2 m illions Holdings of, war paper, i * e » , b i l l s

Member banks in New York City report an aggregate increase in

Treasury

certificate holdings of 122<5 millions, while for the member banks in all
the 12 Federal Reserve cities an increase in these holdings of 191«9 millions
is shown*

Combined holdings of U» S. war securities and paper supported,

by such securities (so-called war paper) were 3 >635*3 millions - .an increase
for the week of 233*9 millions* and constituted 26 per cent of the tote-!
loans and investments of the reporting banks, as against 24-<9 per cent the
week before.

For the member banks in the 12 Federal Reserve cities a rise
