Board’ s weekly bank statement issued as at, close of business on April

I919.

The banks1 gold reserves show an increase of S .6 millions following gold de­
posits by the Treasury.
War paper on hand declined 16.1 millions, other discounts - 2-2 millions,
and acceptances -• 7-3 millions.

Treasury certificates, largely of the l~year

2 per cent type to secure Federal Reserve Bank note circulation, show an in­
crease of U.g millions.

Total earning assets, 2,31^*6 millions, chow a decline

for the week of 20.7 millions.

At the end of the week 5 Federal Reserve banks

report aggregate contingent liabilities of 11S millions on paper rediscounted
with or sold to other Federal Reserve banks, an increase of 39.5 millions o^er
the corresponding total reported the week before by 1+ banks.
Government deposits decreased 53.1 millionc, while members’ reserve de­
posits gained 2^.1 millionsi

Net deposits show a. decline of over 35 millions.

A total increase of 25*9 millions in Federal Reserve note circulation is
shown, the New York bank reporting over one half of the increase, while the
banks' agsrerjate liabilities on Federal Reserve bank notes in circulation in­
creased 3*5 millions.
As a result of the gain in reserves and the considerable decline in de­
posit liabilities, the banks' reserve percentage shows a rise from 51*9 to

CONDITION OF MEMBER BANKS.
April 5, 1919.
Redemption on a large scale of certificates of indebtedness of the Dec­
ember 5, 1918 issue prior to their maturity on May 6 in accordance with the
Treasury announcement of March 21, and substantial withdrawals of Government
deposits are indicated in the Federal Reserve Board's weekly statement show­
ing condition on March 28 of 772 member banks in leading cities.
A decrease of 121-3 millions is shown in the holdings of Treasury certi­
ficates, the New York City members
