' ' ' '' ' R e t a i l f u r n i t u r e s t o r e s a l e s showed about.the customary seasonal decrease in July, and were 7 per cent l a r g e r than a year e a r l i e r . Cash s a l e s declined moderately, as i s usual a t t h i s t i n e of year, and continued around one-tenth below l a s t y e a r ' s volume,. Credit s a l e s were down about 10 per cent from the preceding month, but showed a 17 per cent increase from the year-ago l e v e l . ^ Inventories declined-one per cent, but on. July 31 were onef o u r t h above those held on the corresponding date a year ago.• At t h e end of t h e month" they amounted; to about four months' supply a t the current r a t e of s a l e , as compared with approximately t h r e e and one^half months' supply a t the end'of July 1946. Instalment accounts receivable were unchanged from the June l e v e l , and continued s u b s t a n t i a l l y above t h e amount outstanding a year e a r l i e r . Collections declined s l i g h t l y , r e s u l t i n g in a c o l l e c t i o n r a t i o of 22 per cent, one point l e s s than in June.
