- RETAIL FURITITURE REPORT FOR DECEMBER 1945
F u r n i t u r e s t o r e s a l e s i n c r e a s e d b y . a b o u t t h e u s u a l s u b s t a n t i a l amount f r o m
November t o December, and were 16 p e r c e n t l a r g e r t h a n a y e a r a g o . Cash s a l e s i n c r e a s e d s h a r p l y and were l a r g e r t h a n f o r any month on r e c o r d . S a l e s on a c a s h b a s i s
were 30 p e r c e n t above t h o s e l a s t y e a r . . Both c h a r g e - a c c o u n t and i n s t a l m e n t s a l e s
showed s e a s o n a l g a i n s i n December and c o n t i n u e d w e l l above t h e volume of a y e a r
earlier.
I n v e n t o r i e s were r e d u c e d t e n p e r c e n t d u r i n g t h e month, b u t on December 31
were s t i l l s i x p e r c e n t above t h o s e h e l d on t h e c o r r e s p o n d i n g d a t e of t h e p r e c e d i n g
y e a r . At t h e end of 1945 t h e y amounted t o about two months* s u p p l y a t t h e c u r r e n t
r a t e of s a l e , a p p r o x i m a t e l y t h e same a s on December 5 1 , 1 9 4 4 .
I n s t a l m e n t a c c o u n t s r e c e i v a b l e i n c r e a s e d more t h a n i s \ s u a l i n December,
and were seven p e r c e n t h i g h e r t h a n on December 3 1 , 1944. The December c o l l e c t i o n r a t i o on i n s t a l m e n t a c c o u n t s was 25 p e r c e n t , two p o i n t s h i g h e r -than i n t h e c o r r e s ponding month a y e a r a g o . These a c c o u n t s a r e now c o l l e c t e d i n a p p r o x i m a t e l y seven
m o n t h s , a somewhat s h o r t e r p e r i o d t h a n i n December 1 2 4 4 .
