SOURCES OF PERSONAL INCOME
Personal income rose $26.9 billion (annual rate) in August following a rise of $34.7 billion in July. The smaller
increase in August was due to transfer payments, which rose $1.4 billion compared to a $1 5.8 billion rise in July that
reflected an 11.2 percent cost-of-living adjustment to social security and several other transfer payment programs. In
August, wages and salaries rose $16.2 billion compared to $10.7 billion in July.
