SOURCES OF PERSONAL INCOME
Personal income fell $2.8 billion (annual rate) in January following a rise of $38.9 billion in December. The
changes were affected by special factors involving (in December and January) military pay, cost-of-living
adjustments, tax rates and the taxable wage base for social security, and subsidy payments for farmers and (in
November) severe flooding. Without these special factors, personal income rose $6.8 billion in January and $22.3
billion in December.

DISPOSITION OF PERSONAL INCOME
Real per capita disposable personal income rose in the fourth quarter of 1985, after a decline in the third quarter.
The decline in the third quarter to a large extent reflected the delay and catchup in income tax refunds in the first
and second quarters,
