| Home Owners' Loan Corporation
The Home Owner's Loan Corporation (HOLC) was a New Deal agency established in 1933 by the Home Owner's Refinancing Act. Its purpose was to enable homeowners hurt by the Depression to avoid foreclosure by providing government supported refinancing. It was only applicable to nonfarm homes, but it also assisted mortgage-holding banks. The HOLC stopped lending in 1936 and ended its operations in the 1960s.
